MetroRide (“MetroRide”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information of Passengers, Drivers, Fleet Operators, website visitors and other persons who use our services.

This Privacy Policy explains how MetroRide collects, uses, stores, protects, discloses and otherwise processes personal information when you use the MetroRide Platform, including the MetroRide Passenger application, MetroRide Driver application, website, APIs and related services.

This Privacy Policy is intended to operate consistently with applicable Nigerian data-protection requirements, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and other applicable laws and regulations.

By using MetroRide, you acknowledge that you have had an opportunity to read and understand this Privacy Policy.

2. SCOPE OF THIS POLICY

This Privacy Policy applies to:

  • MetroRide Passengers;

  • MetroRide Drivers;

  • Fleet Operators;

  • Persons who create MetroRide Accounts;

  • Persons who contact MetroRide support;

  • Visitors to MetroRide websites;

  • Persons who communicate with MetroRide through the App or approved channels; and

  • Other persons whose personal information MetroRide processes in connection with its services.

This policy applies to information collected through our mobile applications, websites, APIs, customer-support channels and related services.


3. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Depending on how you use MetroRide, we may collect the following categories of information.

3.1 Account and Identity Information

We may collect:

  • Date of birth where required;

  • Gender where voluntarily provided or lawfully required;

  • Account credentials and authentication information;

  • Driver identification and verification information; and

3.2 Driver Information

If you register as a Driver, we may collect:

  • Driver name and contact details;

  • Driver photograph;

  • Driver's licence information;

  • Vehicle registration information;

  • Vehicle make, model and colour;

  • Vehicle identification details;

  • Insurance information where required;

  • Vehicle photographs;

  • Driver verification information;

  • Bank or payment information required for payouts;

  • Driver ratings and reviews;

  • Trip and service history; and

  • Other information required by applicable transportation, safety or regulatory requirements.


3.3 Location Information

Because MetroRide provides transportation services, location information is an important part of the Platform.

Depending on your permissions and use of the App, we may collect:

  • Current or approximate location;

  • Pickup location;

  • Destination;

  • Driver location;

  • Route information;

  • Trip start and end locations;

  • Location information while a trip is active; and

  • Location information required for navigation, dispatch, safety and transportation services.

Location information may be collected while the App is being used and, where technically necessary and permitted by the device operating system and your permissions, in the background for Driver or trip-related functionality.

You can control location permissions through your device settings. Restricting location access may prevent some MetroRide features from functioning properly.


3.4 Trip and Transaction Information

We may collect:

  • Ride requests;

  • Pickup and destination information;

  • Trip dates and times;

  • Driver and Passenger information associated with a Ride;

  • Fare amounts;

  • Discounts and promotions;

  • Cancellation information;

  • Payment status;

  • Receipts and invoices;

  • Ratings and reviews;

  • Complaints and disputes; and

  • Other information necessary to administer a Ride.


3.5 Payment Information

Where payments are available through MetroRide, payment information may be processed by MetroRide and/or third-party payment service providers.

Depending on the payment method, this may include:

  • Payment method;

  • Transaction reference;

  • Payment status;

  • Amount paid;

  • Currency;

  • Billing information; and

  • Limited payment-account information.

Where a third-party payment processor handles card or other payment credentials, MetroRide may not receive or store the complete card number or security code.


3.6 Communications

When you contact MetroRide or communicate through MetroRide features, we may process:

  • Messages;

  • Support requests;

  • Complaints;

  • Feedback;

  • Driver/Passenger communications;

  • Call-related information where applicable;

  • Attachments or photographs submitted to support; and

  • Records necessary to provide customer service and resolve disputes.


3.7 Device and Technical Information

We may automatically receive technical information such as:

  • Device type;

  • Operating system;

  • Application version;

  • Device identifiers;

  • IP address;

  • Network information;

  • Crash reports;

  • Diagnostic information;

  • Application performance information;

  • Language and regional settings; and

We use this information primarily to maintain security, troubleshoot technical problems, improve performance and operate the Platform.


3.8 Photos, Camera and Documents

Certain MetroRide features may require access to your camera or photographs, including:

  • Driver profile photographs;

  • Vehicle photographs;

  • Identity or verification documents;

  • Images submitted for support;

  • Images used for account verification; and

  • Other images you voluntarily submit.

MetroRide will use such information for the purposes for which it was collected or as otherwise permitted by law.


3.9 Push Notifications

MetroRide may send notifications relating to:

  • Ride requests;

  • Ride acceptance;

  • Driver arrival;

  • Trip status;

  • Messages;

  • Payments;

  • Account activity;

  • Safety notices;

  • Service announcements; and

  • Other important account or operational information.

You can control certain notification permissions through your device settings.

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to:

  3. Connecting Passengers with Drivers;

  4. Dispatching and assigning Rides;

  8. Verifying Drivers, vehicles and Accounts;

  9. Communicating with you;

  10. Providing customer support;

  11. Processing complaints and resolving disputes;

  12. Maintaining Platform security;

  13. Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse and unauthorized activity;

  14. Improving applications and services;

  15. Performing analytics and service-performance measurement;

  16. Sending service-related notifications;

  17. Sending marketing communications where permitted by law;

  18. Complying with applicable laws, regulations and lawful governmental requests;

  19. Protecting the safety, rights and property of MetroRide, Passengers, Drivers and other persons; and

  20. Enforcing our agreements, policies and Terms.


5. LAWFUL BASES FOR PROCESSING

Where applicable, MetroRide may rely on one or more lawful bases for processing personal information, including:

  • Performance of a contract or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract;

  • Compliance with legal or regulatory obligations;

  • Consent;

  • Protection of vital interests where applicable;

  • Legitimate interests where permitted by applicable law; and

  • Other lawful bases recognized by applicable data-protection legislation.

Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent where applicable.

Withdrawal of consent does not necessarily affect processing that occurred before withdrawal or processing that is otherwise permitted or required by law.


6. LOCATION DATA

MetroRide uses location information to provide essential transportation functionality.

For Passengers, location information may be used to:

  • Identify pickup locations;

  • Display nearby Drivers;

  • Provide estimated arrival times;

  • Facilitate Rides;

  • Calculate routes and distances; and

  • Improve safety and service delivery.

For Drivers, location information may be used to:

  • Identify available Drivers;

  • Dispatch Ride requests;

  • Show Driver location to Passengers during relevant trips;

  • Calculate routes;

  • Facilitate navigation;

  • Monitor trip progress;

  • Provide safety and support functions; and

  • Prevent fraud or misuse.

Location sharing may be visible to another user only where reasonably necessary to provide the relevant service.


7. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION

MetroRide may disclose or make personal information available to the following categories of recipients.

7.1 Passengers and Drivers

Certain information must be shared between Passengers and Drivers to facilitate a Ride.

For example, a Passenger may see:

  • Driver name;

  • Driver photograph;

  • Vehicle information;

  • Vehicle registration details where appropriate;

  • Driver rating;

  • Estimated arrival information;

  • Relevant trip location information; and

  • Other information reasonably necessary to identify and complete the Ride.

Drivers may receive information necessary to accept and complete a Passenger's Ride request, including pickup and destination information.


7.2 Service Providers

We may use third-party providers for:

  • Cloud hosting;

  • Database and infrastructure services;

  • Payment processing;

  • Maps and geolocation;

  • Push notifications;

  • SMS and OTP delivery;

  • Email;

  • Customer support;

  • Analytics;

  • Security;

  • Fraud prevention; and

  • Technical maintenance.

We take reasonable steps to ensure that service providers process personal information only as necessary for their authorized services and subject to applicable contractual or legal safeguards.


7.3 Legal and Regulatory Authorities

  • Cloud infrastructure;

  • SMS;

  • Push notifications; and

  • Realtime communication.

9. GOOGLE MAPS AND LOCATION SERVICES

MetroRide may use mapping and location technologies to provide:

  • Pickup and destination functionality; and

  • Driver/Passenger location services.

Use of these services may involve processing of location and technical information by the relevant service provider.


10. REALTIME COMMUNICATION

MetroRide may use realtime communication technology to deliver:

  • Ride requests;

  • Ride-status updates;

  • Driver/Passenger notifications;

  • Chat messages;

  • Fleet communications; and

  • Other realtime application events.

This information may be transmitted through secure connections and infrastructure providers used by MetroRide.


11. DATA SECURITY

MetroRide takes reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, loss, destruction or misuse.

Security measures may include:

  • Encryption in transit;

  • Authentication controls;

  • Access controls;

  • Secure server infrastructure;

  • Logging and monitoring;

  • Credential protection;

  • Security updates; and

However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You are responsible for protecting your Account credentials and should not share passwords, authentication codes or other security information with unauthorized persons.


12. DATA RETENTION

MetroRide retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including:

  • Providing services;

  • Maintaining business records;

  • Resolving disputes;

  • Preventing fraud;

  • Maintaining security;

  • Complying with legal or regulatory requirements; and

  • Enforcing contractual rights.

When information is no longer required, MetroRide may delete, anonymize or securely dispose of it, subject to applicable law.

Certain transaction, security, fraud-prevention, tax, accounting or regulatory records may need to be retained for longer periods where legally required or reasonably necessary.


13. ACCOUNT DELETION

You may request deletion of your MetroRide Account.

Account deletion may be requested through:

Where available, users may also request deletion through the MetroRide application.

When an account-deletion request is completed, MetroRide will delete or anonymize personal information associated with the Account that is not required to be retained for legitimate purposes.

Certain information may be retained where necessary for:

  • Legal compliance;

  • Tax or accounting requirements;

  • Fraud prevention;

  • Security;

  • Dispute resolution;

  • Enforcement of agreements; or

  • Other lawful purposes.

Retention of such information does not mean that your Account remains active.


14. YOUR DATA PROTECTION RIGHTS

Subject to applicable law and lawful limitations, you may have rights including:

  • The right to request access to personal information;

  • The right to request correction of inaccurate information;

  • The right to request deletion where legally applicable;

MetroRide is not intended to be used independently by children who are below the applicable legal age for entering into the relevant agreement or using the service.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to MetroRide improperly, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.


16. MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

Where permitted by law, MetroRide may send promotional communications about:

  • Discounts;

  • Other MetroRide offerings.

You may opt out of promotional communications where an unsubscribe mechanism is provided.

Service-related communications, including Ride notifications, security alerts and important Account messages, may continue even if you opt out of marketing.

Some MetroRide service providers may process information outside Nigeria.

Where personal information is transferred to another country or jurisdiction, MetroRide will take reasonable steps to ensure that the transfer is handled in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements and appropriate safeguards.

MetroRide maintains procedures designed to detect, assess and respond to security incidents involving personal information.

Where applicable law requires notification of a data breach to affected persons or a competent authority, MetroRide will make such notification within the applicable legal timeframe.

You are responsible for ensuring that information you provide to MetroRide is accurate and up to date.

  • Vehicle information;
